Rev. Steven D. Neville PhD
On September 23, 2018, Rev. Steven D. Neville, PhD was installed as the eighth pastor of Metropolitan Baptist Church, Dorchester, Massachusetts.
Reverend Steven Neville is a native of the Roxbury section of Boston, Massachusetts. He is the son of Jeanette Neville and Richard Wood. Pastor Neville was educated in the Boston Public School System where he graduated from the Boston Latin School with the class of 1980. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Dartmouth College in 1984, a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in 1989, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Massachusetts Boston in 2017.
Reverend Neville received a pre-ordination license to preach in September of 1987. He served as an associate minister with Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Brockton, Massachusetts, Butler Street Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, and Zion Hill Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia where he was ordained in July of 2001. He also served as an interim pastor for the Redemption Community Church in East Point, Georgia, and as assistant pastor at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Brockton, Massachusetts.
Reverend Neville also serves presently as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of Massachusetts Boston with responsibility for Social Justice Leadership and Service. In his nearly 10 years of service with the University, Reverend Neville provided leadership for the Boston Do The Write Thing Challenge, a Chancellor’s violence prevention initiative, and the UMass Boston Breaking the Cycle of Violence Initiative which continues to convene students, faculty, and community members in collaborative conversations meant to engender a culture of peace.
His professional experience includes 15 years of service in higher education administration, as well as 12 years of information systems consulting and project management in the manufacturing and distribution industry where he implemented large-scale software applications for medium to large companies around the United States.
Pastor Neville and the First Lady Yolanda Finch Neville (deceased) are the proud parents of three sons, Stephan Richard, Malcolm Elisha, and Jaris Rasheed, and a daughter in love, Christine Neville. Reverend Neville presently resides in the town of Foxboro.
